The joy of discovering the UK as a group

Great Britain, the United Kingdom, Britannia, Limeyland – unlike most other countries, there are several words that define the collective group of countries that consist of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.  Once the powerhouse of a colossal global empire, these neighboring islands to mainland Europe remain a fascinating and intriguing travel destination for both first time and regular visitors throughout the world.

And it’s easy to see why: whether it’s the breath-taking beauty of the English countryside , the stunning landscapes in the Scottish highlands, or beautiful Cornwall, global sporting events such as Wimbledon, or discovering London - Europe’s only true global city – a trip to the UK really does offer something for everyone.

Getting  there has never been easier.  London's Heathrow Airport remains its main hub airport for lang-haul flights, with cheap flights available to most European destinations from one of the other 40 or so UK airports.  Arriving by train is possible thanks to EuroStar and soon the fast and comformatble high speed ICE trains from Germany.

But perhaps one of the most exciting ways of getting there is to take a ferry - the collective excitement as the iconic white cliffs of Dover draw closer will almost be palpable!

Furthermore, soon it will be possible to come by Deutsche Bahn’s ICE trains which will terminate at the magnificent St. Pancras Station.  Given that this features the world’s longest champagne bar, this station has become a popular destination in its own right!  With a journey taking about 4 hours from central Cologne to central London, the total travelling time might even match or beat flying…

Discovering Great Britain as a group has many advantages over a ‘DIY’ trip.  First and foremost, group travel is a great way to make new friends, or to share memories that will last a lifetime with existing ones.  Secondly, travelling in a group will allow individuals in the group to benefit from the group buying power of the tour operator.

What is more, some destinations and venues do not cater to solo visitors and will only admit groups.  To this end, the advantages afforded by travelling as part of a group soon becomes all too evident.

Whilst generic travel packages to this green and pleasant land will always be popular, there is an increasing appetite for niche bespoke itineraries that cater to the interests of any given group: this might include experiencing a premier league game for football fans, a trip to ‘motorsport valley’ for Formula 1 enthusiasts, choir trips that allow participants to sing with British choirs, discovering the rich heritage of Royal Britain, VIP shopping, old-timer cars and tractors, or experiencing the many steam train trips that the UK has to offer – by travelling with a specialist tour operator, the specific interests of any given group can be catered for, resulting in an unforgettable trip for all participants.
